We’re Building Better Teams With Blackhawke Behavior Science

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

By Chris Danek

When you work on a team, what strengths do you bring with you? How would your teammates and colleagues describe you? And how can you become a better teammate?

These are the questions we ask Bessel Origin participants before they start working together.

I’m a strong believer in the power of self-assessments. Most of my career growth has come from improving my own self-awareness. That’s why I’m so excited to partner with Blackhawke Behavior Science to offer their Entrepreneurship Value Profile (EVP) as a core tool for Bessel Origin participants.

Over the past few years, I have worked alongside Blackhawke cofounder and industrial-organizational psychologist Nikki Blacksmith. She has brought to my students the same evidence-based leadership and teamwork insights that she teaches students in her class, Leading High-Performance Teams, at American University in Washington, D.C. She and her Blackhawke colleagues have developed the EVP assessment to help leaders and employees understand their individual strengths and build more powerful teams.

What Bessel Origin Participants Will Learn

Before the cohort starts, Bessel Origin participants will receive a link to take the 30-minute online Blackhawke EVP assessment. In their first working program session, participants will learn about teamwork and leadership. A Blackhawke expert will explain the assessment and how each participant can get the most from their individual results.

Participants will use their results to understand their own strengths and working style. Plus, they’ll have the option to share their results with their cohort to better understand their team dynamics.

Throughout the program, participants will review how their team is working together and reference their EVP results.

Our Blackhawke experts-in-residence will also lead masterclasses on teamwork for current participants and alumni.

We see a clear benefit for Bessel Origin participants — a chance to understand themselves better, become a better teammate, and learn from our Blackhawke experts-in-residence.

And companies working with Bessel Origin will better understand their own teams’ dynamics, learn how to build more balanced teams, and identify the key players they need.
